'Geordie Roots' (GJF/CD/02)

Following on from the success of "Canny Tyneside", in the Spring of 2003 I began working on materials for a second CD and completed the project in September 2003. The songs are another set of Geordie favourites (plus one of my own songs) once again with specially arranged two-guitar accompaniment and bringing some new ideas to the traditional repertoire. The CD is entitled "Geordie Roots".

Reviews

The North-Easterner Magazine - ...another excellent compilation containing such gems as The Keel Row, The Row upon the stairs, Geordie haad the bairn, Dance ti thy Daddy, Bonny at Morn and a different version of Blaydon Races. Roly's unique style is easy on the ears; his natural Geordie accent, his warm, soft and melodic delivery, and his simple yet highly effective two guitar arrangements all put together to great effect

Northumbrian Magazine - recommended Christmas purchase 2003 to 2007 - ...nothing encapsulates the Geordie character and humour better than local dialect songs as sung by Roly Veitch. In an intimate vocal style and with a natural clear dialect plus unique two guitar accompaniments, the Blaydon Aces bring fresh ideas to the popular repertoire. Nostalgia given a make-over!

Durham Town & Country Magazine - ...recommended Christmas present idea - 2003 to 2007.

Bill Griffiths, coordinator of Durham & Tyneside Dialect Research Group - ...warm, close-in and natural. New harmonic and melodic ideas but fitting the orgininal sentiment and tone of the songs. In natural dialect, neither suppressed nor exaggerated.

John Harle, BBC Radio Newcastle - ...Roly is heavily involved with the local jazz clubs - plays in a very gentle jazz guitar style and sings the songs in a warm, understated way. I think they are terrific. We had a lot of enquiries about his first CD "Canny Tyneside". Now here is his new CD "Geordie Roots".

Judith Murphy, Northern Review - 'Roly resolutely cranks down the volume in his characteristic style, has adapted the songs with sensitivity, wit and an unforced Blaydon dialect'. 'The Cliffs of Old Tynemouth is a revelation, Bonny at Morn - gorgeous'. 'He sheds new light on old tunes'.
